   Committee Member 
Phillip Daw      
 Philip was born in Glenferrie and has been a resident of Monash for over thirty years.
 He is an engineer and has held various management positions in manufacturing industry over a similar period of time
 Philip is married to Joan and has two grown children.
 He is actively involved in issues relating to transport, planning and the environment and over recent years has become     increasingly interested and involved in local community issues.
 He stood as a candidate for Monash Council's Jell Ward at the last elections.
 Areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to:
bullet   Ensuring Monash Council and its councillors act responsibly and are open, accountable, transparent and accessible.
bullet   Planning. He is strongly opposed to inappropriate development. Especially high rise /high density development in residential areas.
bullet   Services, transport and environmentally responsible initiatives.
bullet   Ensuring the amenity within the City of Monash for all Ratepayers and residents, especially the elderly and youth, are maintained and improved.
bullet   Providing a voice for the people of Monash and an avenue for them to be heard.
bullet   Ensuring the City of Monash becomes and remains the most liveable municipality in the most liveable big city in the world.

He is strongly of the view that Melbourne 2030's mantra of merely "a liveable city" is just not good enough!

Jack Davis J.P -   President.

 

Jack was born in Richmond and has been a resident of Oakleigh for nearly thirty years. He  operated a successful auto repair business in Elsternwick for many years and currently holds a contract with the RACV to provide a network of vans for Roadside Service.  On retiring he became involved in many community groups. In 1990 he became interested in the operations of Council and nominated for and became a Councillor for Central Ward with the City of Oakleigh.  After amalgamation of the two Cities of Oakleigh and Waverley and the two years of the commissioners management he was elected as a Councillor with the City of Monash and served on more committee’s than any other councillor. During Jack’s 10 year involvement with Council he was able to accomplish or help to accomplish many improvements. Some of which were:

The new building for the Oakleigh Historical Society
bullet  
Formation of the Bikes Victoria Committee.
bullet  
Establishment of a master plan for Warrawee Park.
bullet  
Removal of the derelict Oakleigh Club building.
bullet  
Major upgrading to Davies Reserve.
bullet  
Establishment of the Talbot Park Committee.
bullet  
Retained two Oakleigh Community halls under community committee’s of Management
bullet  
Established the formation of the Warrawee Park Precinct Heritage Advisory committee
bullet  
Construction of the new Rotunda at Warrawee Park.
bullet  
New home for Meals on wheels in Oakleigh
bullet  
Campaign to prevent the sale of Public open space.
bullet  
Redevelopment of the Clayton pool
 
Prior to his election to Monash Council Jack became a member of the Monash Ratepayers Association and was the only Councillor to stay on that committee during his term as councillor. On completion of his term in Council he became President.
Jack is deeply committed to representing the Ratepayers/Residents of Monash.
He was recently elected as President of Ratepayers Victoria

Felicity Smith
 

 

 

 
Felicity Smith -  Secretary.
 
 
Felicity was born in Oakleigh and has lived most of her life in Oakleigh. She grew up going to local schools and working locally. Her parents were involved in a local church from its beginnings in Hughesdale Primary School to its final building in Coatesville. As a result of her background Felicity became involved with the local community at an early age. Felicity is married to Howard and has three boys who live at home.
 
Felicity's current involvement in the Oakleigh Community started when she became President of Germain St. Kindergarten in 1994. Since then her involvements have been with

the Oakleigh Kinder Association, Monash Pre-School Association and Kindergarten Parents Victoria as a Board Member for two years.

John Saddington

John Saddington - Treasurer.

 

John was born in Prahran. At the age of 23 he became an apprentice Carpenter and Joiner with a Melbourne builder. John purchased land in East Burwood in the early 70s and built a house for his mother around the same time.

John became involved with the trade union and rose to the position of Assistant Secretary of the 'Building Workers Industrial Union' until 1990. He then started up his own Association representing small businesses in the building industry, and is currently a consultant to the Australian Workers Union.

John and his wife Jacqueline have two daughters and reside in Mt Waverley John was a foundation member of the area Neighbourhood watch. John has been involved with the Syndal South Primary School for about 10 Years And is a member of the grounds Maintenance Committee He joined the Ratepayers Association after experiencing the frustrations of dealing with Monash Council and has been a worthy member of our Association.
