The truth about your Council
It is interesting to read the letters to the editor of recent times in regards to Councillors affiliation with political parties. (Waverley Leader April 12 2005 “Party allegiances must be open”
Monash Council makes no secret that certain Labor party councillors, who do not necessarily represent the views or policies of the Labor party, dominate not only all council decisions, they go one step further. If other councillors or persons dare to speak out about the domination that goes on behind the scenes they are publicly vilified and attacked with lies of a personal nature.
For example, since Cr Lake became a Councillor we have seen attacks led by him against fellow councillors including:
| Alleging one councillor had run up excessive phone accounts, which proved to be false. | |
| Alleging one of taking his wife overseas at council expense when in fact the accused councillor never claimed her cost from council. | |
| Calling a former female Councillor derogatory names at a Council meeting. This incident was then referred to the Equal Opportunity Board resulting in a decision against Cr Lake. (My words, I feel that using the exact words in written form is not appropriate.) | |
| When a more independent Labor councillor would not support Cr lake for the mayoralty she was vilified publicly and still is attacked in voluntary positions she holds today. |
| Not forgetting myself (Ex Cr Jack Davis). Cr Lake deliberately lied to council at the council meeting May 18 2004 resulting in the illegal dismissal of the Huntingdale Community Hall Management Committee. His accusations have been proven to be unfounded by the audit conducted by Council and the basis of his argument and rationale discredited by the real legal position and advice. For some curious reason this audit report has not been made public? |
On March 7th 2003 in the Ringwood Magistrates Court an interim intervention order was issued against Cr Lake to prevent him from stalking, assaulting, harassing, threatening, or intimidating another Councillor.
When a female councillor walks out of a council meeting in tears over the election of the Deputy Mayor something is wrong?
Ratepayers at the coming Monash elections in November must elect a council that will truly represent the Ratepayers interests and be available, unlike the current councillors, most of whom never return phone messages or reply to correspondence.
The famous quote by Cr Mc Call prior to the last elections:
“We must shake the shit from the tree. It would appear he did not shake the tree hard enough. But then that would be difficult, because he is now up the tree with his comrades!
Jack Davis
Immediate Past President
