Editorial comment:

Cr Lake insisted that the MRA not put his email on the MRA website.   However we have placed our email response on the  website which follows.

By Email to:

Councillor Geoff Lake

Napier Ward

City of Monash

Post Office Box 1

Dear Councillor Lake,

Re:      Your email letter dated 2nd November 2005

Thank you for your email in relation to the issues raised by you concerning our Association’s website content, I respond as follows:

First, the Monash Ratepayers’ Association Inc website does not operate as a source for innuendo, misrepresentation or character assassination against any local councillor or individual. Its primary object is to inform the residents and ratepayers of the ‘rights’ and ‘wrongs’ of our local Councillors and Council.

Second, note that none of the present content is misrepresenting issues, matters and concerns that have not occurred and that have not already been discussed either in the national and local press.

Third, in reference to the specific matters you claim ‘mislead’ ratepayers and residents concerning issues involving you personally, I say as follows:

a.         You were involved in a Equal Opportunity Commission with former Councillor Kathy Magee (Wellington Ward) in 2002 at which you delivered a public apology to that maligned Councillor on the public record which was recorded in the Council minutes (which we have copies of).

b.         Further, you were the subject of intervention proceedings taken out against you by former Councillor Tom Morrissey (Damper Ward) which on 1st April 2003 under your own signature you signed an apology expressing your regrets that your actions had adversely caused concern and stress to Former Councillor Morrissey, his family and his staff at Burwood Plumbing.

c.         In reference to ‘bully’ matters we have both Sun-Herald articles of 2002 (March 27th “MP, MAYOR FACE BLACKMAIL CHARGES”) (The Age, 27th August 2005    and local newspaper articles which describe such actions that have been attributed to you.

Therefore, I suggest you carefully recollect your past deeds and re-assess the veracity of your comments in your email to me. You will be surprised, how a careful recollection will allow you to reflect more seriously on the baseless allegations you have made.

Finally, in regards to your email dated 2nd November 2005,   I will publish this email response.

 Yours Faithfully,

 Philip Daw

President, Monash Ratepayers Association
